Jenna is best friends with Tamara Kaplan and Ming Huang. She shares an antagonistic relationship with Sadie Saxton, which has never evolved. However they briefly worked together to work against new enemy Amber Horn. She had an on-and-off romantic relationship with Matty McKibben, until she cheated on him with Collin Jennings. They started having a friends with benefits, but Jenna started to realize that he's hiding her from others again, and broke it off. She briefly dated Jake Rosati, but broke-up with him to be with Matty. She was recently in a relationship with Luke, who is a smart college student, but they recently broke-up.
Jenna has also been struggling to live a "normal life" ever since a misunderstanding which led people into thinking she had a "failed suicide attempt," and because of this she has been counseling with Valerie Marks, who gives Jenna terrible advice and considers Jenna her "best friend."
After she dated Collin, her personality, wardrobe and attitude began to change, making her reckless, uncaring and more daring, and as a result she was alienated by her friends, but it's later revealed that Collin still had a sexual relationship with his ex-girlfriend. Collin told Jenna that their relationship wasn't exclusive, this made it clear that they are no longer together, but she managed to make everything right between her friends and family.
Jenna is described as smart, compassionate, empathetic, caring and friendly. But she can be vulnerable, a little selfish with what she wants and placed in very awkward situations, however as of now she has started to grow up and take control with her life, making her even more mature since the series started.
She is played by American actress and director Ashley Rickards.
Jenna P. Hamilton is the daughter of Lacey and Kevin Hamilton, who had Jenna when they were seventeen, and it's mentioned that when Lacey's pregnancy got revealed to Kevin's parents, they had an angry confrontation with her, and too make matters worse, this resulted in her throwing up, but it's unknown if they've made up since then. Jenna was born on December 2, 1995 in Los Angeles at 7:32 P.M. Because her parents had her at a young age, they are childish and embarrassing towards Jenna, as they both try to be her friend rather than a parent.
Sometime during her childhood, Jenna befriended Kristy Patton, whom she mentioned used to eat paste, but this friendship is assumed to be short-lived since they're no longer close in high school. She also befriended Tamara Kaplan and Ming Huang, who are her best friends. It was shown, that she has a playhouse in her garden and used to collect Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures. Prior to the beginning of the series, it is suggested that Jenna and Sadie Saxton have never been on good or friendly terms and have been long-term enemies for a long time. It has also been mentioned that during Aunt Ally's visits, Jenna used to always has to spend time in care during her childhood.

During the events of Once Upon A Blog, Jenna was asked on her blog, if she could redo everything how would she do it. This inspires her to re-write the different events off Season 1 in the style of fan-fiction. She also got asked to re-write the love triangle in the style of a romance novel, which she briefly does for fun.
Jenna was asked by someone on her blog too re-write the love triangle in the style of a romance novel and she re-wrote it in the style of The Twilight Saga, which she made herself the human teenage girl (Bella), Jake a werewolf (Jacob) and Matty a vampire (Edward). However someone called the story lame, which makes her quit typing the story.
If Jenna never went to summer camp, she would have went to summer school and got an early graduation and as a result of this:-
- Sadie has no need to make fun of Jenna's failed suicide attempt.
- Valerie wouldn't have to keep Jenna on suicide watch.
- Matty and Jake wouldn't take interest in Jenna.
However Jenna re-wrote the ending of this story and made Jake and Matty a couple instead.
Jenna is a typical teenage girl, who is described as the down-to-earth girl-next-door wallflower. She is usually kind, smart and compassionate, but at most of the time she is put in awkward and embarrassing moments, most people (like Sadie) describe her as boring and a slut.
She can also be a little sarcastic and sometimes selfish with Matty whenever another girl shows an interest in him, but this can show that she is easily jealous.
Jenna's new personality change began 3 weeks after her 17th birthday and has started rebelling with her new boyfriend Collin Jennings. She was described as careless, selfish, bitchy, arrogant and as a result she has done many things that she has regreted doing. This included; nearly getting arrested with Collin after smoking weed, fighting with her friends (via text and call) by insulting them, being cruel to Matty and calling his new girlfriend Devon a "rebound skank" and telling Tamara that she cant get her own guys so she settled for Jenna's "slopey seconds" (i.e. Jake).
She also stole from her parents and lost her father's trust after nearly getting arrested. She lost her mother's trust after she snuck out the house to be with Collin, told Tamara to "take care" and stands up for herself. (Example: Sadie told her Karma's a bi*ch and Jenna replies "is that why you're broke and homeless"?)
Jenna also had sex with Collin 3 weeks into their relationship just to keep him and gets warned that if she leaves the house she can't come back. She actually leaves and is on the sidewalk wondering if she should stay on the streets. She tells Valerie that she's been a horrible guidance counselor and slams the door in her face, and gets suspended (temporarily) from school, after being caught smoking on school campus by Valerie. She also takes ecstasy (although not intentionally her fault). She tells her mother, Ally, Valerie and Sadie, to f*** off, gets Mr. Hart to print a cruel article on a magazine about Valerie.
Jenna almost got into a threesome with Angelique Welch and Collin Jennings. She Regrets ever becoming "the new Jenna." She turned back into the Old Jenna after realizing her mistakes and making amends with her friends and family.
Similar to the old Jenna, Jenna 2.0 is a new and improved version of the old Jenna. She is more down-to-earth and caring. As of Season 4, she has grown more mature and has even started to take more control of her life. She is shown to be more caring and sympathic towards her friends. Despite this, she is still jealous of whenever a girl shows an interest in Matty. But she manages to put her feelings aside her and accepts it since she is now in a relationship with Luke, even setting Matty up on a date with Eva, which she is currently regretting because Amber Horn is showing off her true colors and turning into a bad influence on Matty.
Rickards described her character as "smart, sarcastic, a little bit witty and very intuitive." She also said Jenna "can be the shy, introverted girl, whereas on her blog she's snarky, she's introspective, she's a little bit wiser, she'll write the truth… and then probably not act on it." Rickards called her a "role model" because "every time she gets kicked down, she gets back up fighting" while it is sometimes easier to give up.
Jenna has an attractive oval face. She has long dark brown hair, with bangs which is usually in a braid, hazel eyes and stands about 5'5." She also has pale complexion and rarely wears any visible make-up, instead looking more natural.
Her style was plain and she wore "clothes for comfort." She usually wore plain shirts with some floral-like patterns. She would sometimes wears blue-jeans and skirts. She also had a butterfly necklace, which she doesn't wear anymore. She is also prefers to hide in her hoodies and has an whole wardrobe dedicated to her love for them. Also for special events, she wears really nice and formal dresses.Because of her new attitude and personality change. Her fashion sense has began to change as well. She no longer wears her hair in a braid, but instead leaves it long and curly. She has also started to wear beanie hats, scarves, skinny jeans, plain shirts and T-shirts, tights, high-heeled boots. She is also shown to dress a little bit more edger, such as mini-skirts and tight t-shirts, too show some cleavage. She is also shown to wear some heavy eye make-up. She has also started to accessorize more and wear things such as bracelets and rings.
As of Season 4, there are some elements to what the old Jenna wore and the new Jenna wore, giving her a more mature look.

Ashley Rickards first received the script through her representatives and then met the series' creator. "I met with Lauren Iungerich and it all went really well and all worked out. I got to do the project, it got picked up and here we are." Speaking of what appealed to her about the show, she said:
"When I read the script, I literally fell in love with it. It struck as something completely different. It has a really unique voice. Not only is the show funny and charming, but it has the ability to cover so many different emotions in 22 minutes -- from the hilarious, to the psychological, to having a dramatic edge all in a 22 minute comedy is an incredibly difficult thing to do. That was exciting for me."
Daniel Fienberg of HitFix applauded Rickards' acting, writing that "she effectively embodies the Everygirl vibe required for the part. She's got good timing, decent physical comedy chops and there's no ego to this performance." New York Post's TV critic Linda Stasi compared Rickards to Juno actress Ellen Page, explaining she is "the kind of kid whose pretty face and adorable bearing is swamped by her ability to look awkward and offbeat." Hank Stuever of The Washington Post was also positive towards Rickards' performance noting "she effortlessly manages to elevate the unfresh premise of MTV's new comedy." AfterElton.com placed Rickards on their list of 2011's Break-Out TV Actors, explaining: "Rickards gives Jenna a doe-eyed innocence and covers the full range of teen emotions, from deer-in-the-headlights paranoia to sultry eyelash batting, sometimes in the same scene. While putting the show on their list of the best TV shows of 2011, The Daily Beast called Rickards "a total standout". Her performance on the show earned her in 2012 a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and a nomination at the Teen Choice Awards for Summer TV Star: Female.
Entertainment Weekly wrote Jenna "navigates the sharky waters of high school, friends, mean cheerleaders, and cute boys with a snarky voice-over that makes her—and Awkward.—easy to fall in love with." The Huffington Post deemed Jenna's voice-overs "witty" as "[they] make this high-school dark comedy stand out from a crowd of stereotypical high school prime-time soaps." David Hinckley of the Daily News wrote: "If the dramas are exaggerated, Jenna makes the trauma feel legitimate, and her narration gives everything a knowing undertone of humor and self-awareness that keeps the most uncomfortable moments from being painful." Reviewing the beginning of the second season, HitFix's Daniel Fienberg was critical of the Matty-Jenna-Jake triangle storyline which had been put forward, diminishing what he first liked: Jenna's look at the high school humiliations. He noted his indifference to Jenna's dilemma as "there's no jeopardy to either choice". "Whoever Jenna chooses is going to say almost nothing about her as a character, so it weakens the character that there's nothing else defining her at this moment", he wrote.
